A Gentle Start to the Year
A new year often brings talk of fresh starts and big plans. After a stroke, this can feel difficult.
You may feel pressure to:
“do better”
recover faster
feel grateful or positive
But stroke recovery does not follow the calendar. Some people feel hopeful in January. Others feel tired, sad, or unsure. All of these feelings are okay.
A new year does not mean you must change. Sometimes, staying steady is enough.
Moving Forward Gently
After a stroke, life may feel uncertain. Your body and brain may still be healing.
Instead of goals, it can help to choose intentions. An intention is something kind you offer yourself.
Examples:
“I will rest when I need to.”
“I will ask for help.”
“I will be patient with myself.”
Helpful Strategies
Choose one word for the year, like gentle or steady
Focus on what supports you, not what pressures you
Let go of comparison with others
Remember: progress looks different for everyone
At Abergele Stroke Club, we believe every step counts. Even showing up is a success.
